Early years and parenting

Incentives for action to prevent childhood accidents:

The Healthy Child Programme covers all aspects of child health, including safety. There are two programmes relevant to the early years, one which covers pregnancy and the first 5 years, one for the two year review.

  • Sure Start Children's Centres are responsible for providing outreach and home visits to parents, which often includes education on child safety and the distribution of free safety equipment.

The Family Nurse Partnership programme gives intensive support to first time parents, including home visits and advice on infant safety. The programme, which is part of the Social Exclusion Action Plan, is being extended.
