Government Poverty review published

Poverty and disadvantage are key factors in unintentional child injury and so the publication of the government’s poverty review conducted by Frank Field – the Independent Review on Poverty and Life Chances - is a significant piece of work in relation to injury prevention.

The report recognises that parental education around early years development is a key factor in influencing a child’s life chances. Also key is the provision of good services such as health services and children’s centres which are a good source of advice and education on injury prevention for parents.

The report suggests possible ways to measure and eradicate poverty including a measure of road traffic accidents as part of a’ multi-dimensional service quality index’.
